6 year old Filipina "Tiger Woods"

This past summer, Filipina-American Amari Avery became the champion for the 6 and under division at the 2010 Callaway Junior World Golf Championships, the San Diego Junior Masters and the Future Champions Golf World Championship.

This 6 year old golf prodigy has been playing since she was 3 and is already being compared to golf's living legend, Tiger Woods. Along with growing up in Riverside,Ca, Amari and Tiger share the same birthday(Dec.30) and their first "Hole-in-one" at the same golf course. Amari is also half African-American and her father nicknamed her "Tigress".

Bruce Lee's Pinoy Student

Born in 1936, Daniel Inosanto is a Filipino-American martial arts instructor from Southern California. He teaches many forms of martial arts including Arnis/Escrima/Kali(Filipino Martial Arts), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Jeet Kune Do, a fighting style and philosophy created by his teacher Bruce Lee. The Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts is located in Marina Del Rey, Ca and has been a place where many known martial artists have started.

Daniel Inonsato also played many roles in movies through the years, including "Big Trouble in Little China" and in "The Game of Death", where he fights Bruce Lee one on one. His most recent project was "The Book of Eli", where he trained Denzel Washington for several months to help him prepare for his role as "Eli", a blind nomad with unbelievable fighting skills.

Daniel's daughter, Diana Lee, is also a well known martial artist/actress , stuntwoman and film director. She has been involved in countless movies and some of them include " The Fast and Furious:Tokyo Drift", "Resident Evil: Apocalypse", "Star Trek: Enterprise", and "Face-Off". Diana Lee, who was named after her godfather Bruce Lee, appeared on the cover of many martial arts magazines and was named "2009 Woman of the Year" by Black Belt Magazine.

Las Vegas Show Inspired by Filipinos!

Since this past May, the popular dance crew, Jabbawockeez, have been performing , "MUS.I.C" (muse-I-see), in Las Vegas. Their limited engagement performance at the MGM Grand became so popular that the Monte Carlo Casino decided to make the show permanent and headline the dance group. The new release started last night and they will be performing from Tuesday -Saturday at 9:30pm.

The Jabbawockeez were founded by three guys from California, two of which are Filipino-Americans, Phil Tayag and Joseph Larot. In time, their crew grew and they eventually landed the 1st "America's Best Dance Crew" Title. Both Phil and Joseph are originally from Sacramento.

MUS.I.C, is directed and choreographed by another Filipino-American, Napoleon Dumo along with his wife, Tabitha. Also known as Nappytabs, they helped choreograph other shows like, "So You Think You Can Dance","America's Best Dance Crew" and three productions of "Cirque du Soleil". The couple also has a hiphop clothing line for dancers and a Nappytabs store and dance studio in Los Angeles.

Our next Chief Justice of California is Pinay!

Congratulations to Tani Gorre Cantil-Sakauye for being confirmed this past August as the next California Chief Justice! She still has to go through an election process in November but is expected to be approved. Not only will she be California's first non-white to head its high court but also the first Filipino-American chief justice.

Born in 1959, Tani grew up in Sacramento and received her law degree from U.C.Davis. Her father worked on a sugar plantation in Hawaii and her mother was also a farm worker. Her parents met in Sacramento and raised four children. She is married to a Sacramento Police Lieutenant and they have two young daughters. DJ Neil Armstrong in Star Wars

If you love Star Wars and is a fan of Hip Hop you can definitely appreciate these videos.I thought it was pretty cool that Adidas incorporated the Cantina Scene into a commercial with a bunch of stars including Snoop Dogg, David Beckham and fellow Filipino DJ Neil Armstrong.

Born and raised in New York, DJ Neil Armstrong has been in the turntables scene for over 15 years.He is one of Jay Z's touring DJS and has been highly regarded for his mixtapes. If you want to catch him in the mix, he will be spinning this Friday for the Soul Sessions 6 Year Anniversary at the Grand Star Jazz Club in Downtown Los Angeles. What do Tim Lincecum, Shane Victorino, and Jason Bartlett all have in common?

They're all of Filipino descent and are playing for a shot at this year's World Series!

Born to a Filipino mother, Tim "the Freak" will be the starting pitcher today for the first game of the division series between the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves. He is a two time Cy Young award winner and has played in every All-Star Game since 2008.

Shane Victorino, who is half Filipino and half Portugese (via epicanthus.net), went 2-4 yesterday including 2 RBIs and 1 Run to help the Philadelphia Phillies hold a 4-0 no-hitter win against the Cincinnati Reds. The All-Star centerfielder has been to the World Series twice (2008 and 2009) where they won it in 2008.

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett was born in Mountainview,Ca and gets his Filipino from his mother's side. The 2009 All-Star went 1-3 as they lost the first game of the divisional series against the Texas Rangers yesterday. He played in the 2008 World Series and hopes to get there again this year.

Hoy!..it's JO KOY!

He'll be performing at the Bob Hope Theatre in Stockton, Ca this Friday and at the Oxnard Performing Arts and Convention Center in Oxnard, Ca on Saturday. Born Joseph Herbert, Filipino-American Jo Koy started doing stand-up after high school. After moving to Las Vegas from Tacoma, Washington, Jo performed at local comedy spots. He eventually made it big after moving to Los Angeles and performing on Jay Leno's Tonight Show in 2005. You can learn more about Jo Koy and his comedy tour here.
